Medtech leaders this month gathered at the offices of Fox Rothschild in Minneapolis to begin framing the agenda for the Medtech Conference 2017 scheduled for June 1 at the Loews Minneapolis Hotel.
Nearly two dozen attendees offered their insights and experiences to help create a foundation for what Kevin Hykes, who returns as co-chair, called the “benchmark event” of Medtech and Minnesota.
“Our industry is small enough that relationships are critical,” says Hykes, the CEO of start-up Metavention and operating partner at Versant Ventures. He says the Medtech Conference brings investors, entrepreneurs, and strategics together to identify the “holes” that Medtech start-ups can fill. “We have limited capital so we should be focusing on those areas that can really move the needle.”
Joining Hykes as co-chair is Stacy Enxing Seng, the successful Medtech executive who now is a venture partner at Lightstone Ventures. Seng, who previously served as an integral member of the conference’s advisory board, says the Medtech Conference also supports start-up executives trying to understand regulatory, reimbursement, and fund-raising landscapes.
“There is a tremendous amount to glean from the insights of other executives who are going through real-time experiences,” she says. “The networking is very important and I think the ability for us to, as a group, commit to continuing to grow our Medtech ecosystem or community can’t happen unless there are those human relationships. That is a big part of what we’re able to provide.”
Tom Salemi, content director for Healthegy, interviewed the two leaders about the conference, their own experiences in Medtech, and the challenges facing the sector. “We’re so fortunate to have Kevin Hykes and Stacy Enxing Seng lead this conference,” Salemi says. “Their insights and success will enable us to create a critical, can’t miss event for the Medtech sector and Minnesota.”
Entering its 16th year, the Medtech Conference draws more than 300 of the sector’s leaders from across the country. The conference’s Minneapolis location makes it ideally suited to merging insights from the two coasts as well as the Midwest’s powerful Medtech community. The event draws internationally as well.
